Read the complete composition
The R1001 composition is 80% cotton, 15% wool, 4% polyester and 1% polyurethane. ROTOTO specifies merino on the exterior and undyed organic cotton inside; END.’s European listing corroborates the fibre percentages. Calling these simply merino socks hides the central buying distinction: cotton dominates the blend. That does not make the product inferior, but it does make the full label more useful than a wool-led product title.
What the double face adds
The maker describes a thick, sweatshirt-like construction with a looped cotton interior, inspired by mountaineering socks. Inspiration is not proof of suitability for technical hiking. Our recommendation concerns everyday wear. Think about where the sock will sit: beneath trousers, in an accommodating boot or in a roomy trainer. The construction sounds attractive if you want substance, but we have not assessed cushioning, friction, temperature or how the knit feels after repeated washing.
The shoe fit is the deciding test
Take the shoes you intend to wear when trying a substantial sock. Stand, walk and check whether your toes and instep still have comfortable space. A shoe that already feels close with your usual pair is a weak starting point. A thinner wool sock offers a different proposition: less material occupying that space. It is not automatically warmer or cooler; construction and your own use matter. Choose the sock and shoe as a combination.
Sizing needs more than an EU conversion
Start with the maker’s centimetre-based size chart. ROTOTO’s current page warns that BLUE, M.GRAY and YELLOW run slightly larger because of yarn thickness. If you sit on a boundary, ask the retailer about the specific colour rather than transferring your size from another ROTOTO model. The French Flâneurs catalogue separates several sock families; a shared brand name does not establish a shared fit.
Buy one pair before committing
A single pair lets you judge compatibility with your wardrobe and laundry habits before buying several colours. ROTOTO advises against tumble drying because of shrinkage; consult the attached label for washing. We have no wear trial establishing heel durability, resistance to pilling or long-term elasticity. If the seller cannot clarify fit and returns, a local fitting becomes more valuable than an appealing photograph.
